I generally like to eat catfish. On two separate occasions I caught catfish in Peddie Lake , Hightstown. Took them home and cooked them up and they tasted horrible. Any idea why?

Whenever I have tried one from muddy water, they have tasted quite bad.

Probably matters what lake/pond they come from. You think Peddie is clean enough to eat from?

I don't eat them even up here in NY state.. They are awful.. Bullheads from a few crystal clear lakes aren't too bad... General rule I use- If there is a good population of freshwater mussels the bullheads will taste clean... I have always found that to be the case... I think they take a lot of the nasty crap out of the water... Never found a channel cat that was worth killing to eat... some people soak them in milk for a few days.. If I have to waste a gallon of milk on a fish to make it almost edible, I just let it go... bob

I just dont eat any freshwater fish period. If I was to, id prob lean on RVR rainbows well over stocking size... and that'd be smoked.
