Thumbs up Raritan river 3/12/25:

Raritan river 3/12: FINALLY broke out the rods and dusted them off. Fished Duke Island Park up near the falls and rolled 2 heavy fish (?trout?). Worked our way down below the "shale flats" and the bug hatch was prolific ! I mean bugs in my eyes, ears, nose, looked like it was snowing, small back flies that looked like gnats. Worked our way further down to Robert St. where my Uncle Ken was throwing Ned rigs and Senkos and hooked a nice SMB. I also hooked a nice SMB that went ballistic and threw my jig. Worked the area by the old dam. Skipped Nevius and Orlando Park and went down to Petersbrook Greenway In Somerville, everything looked great but no fish. That's ok, this river won't show it's true colors till mid to late April the earliest. Looking forward to leaving my comfort zone and fishing Manville, Bound Brook and Piscataway in the coming weeks as the river will be closed for stocking from Rt. 206 up to the Headgates dam until April 5th. No bruised egos today, that's fishing the Raritan for ya ! Carried out as much trash from each spot as I could and have to go back for a tire in Somerville.

Stripers are biting in the Raritan near Route 1.

Lightbulb Re: Raritan river 3/12/25:

The argument has been about striped bass spawning in the Raritan river and I now think we all know the answer to that.
