![]() Bought a Maxel 20 hybrid few months ago after some good reviews by you guys.
Very happy with it. Thanks. Time to add something to arsenal. Not really a fan of low profile reels but see so many being used fluking I’m gonna bite the bullet and give one a try. Looking around and like the looks of the Tranx. Any thoughts? 200 or 300 for general inshore? I see it’s available in 6:2-1, 7.2-1 and 8.5-1. Thanks

![]() No experience with Tranx Duff but a lot of people I know using and recommending the Daiwa Lexa 300HD.... It needs to be the HD since it uses metal instead of plastic gears and it also comes with a power knob, which I prefer to the 2 small paddle knobs.
Lots of guys using it for Blackfish and Fluke and they seem to hold up well...

![]() Hey Doc…..I’ve got 2 sitting on the shelf that need reels.
One is an old school Lami IC70 inshore the other is a St Croix PC 70 HF I just bought from a member here. Gonna drop a low profile reel on one or the other and see how it feels. Like I posted, not a huge fan of lo pros but guys I fish with love em so gonna give one a try. I fished their setups and liked the feel. Matched the Maxel I got a bit back on a custom I had built and that worked out great. Just wanna try something different.

![]() I use a Tranx 200. Love it for inshore fluke, sea bass etc.
Shimano is my preference because many shops in my area service/repair Shimano reels and Daiwa must be sent out. I've never had an issue with the Tranx and may purchase the larger model too. |

I have seen that on what was the second generation reels only . The way to tell the second gen reels have a square opening on the bottom of the gear box . I put a dab of silicone in that small opening and haven’t had another issue with them . .

![]() I have 2 Lexa Winn models with power handle, one 300 and 400. Both have the same issue with the thumb bar needing to be lifted manually. I found an old thread about it online (BD, I believe), that attribute it to a bad design on an anti-reverse lever spring that Daiwa never fixed. Regardless, they feel great otherwise and have performed well . 300 had no issues with the thumb bar until 2 seasons of heavy use, but the 400 was bought on a forum and had issues immediately.
I did get a 301 Tranx in low gear (had to buy power handle separate ![]() Last edited by JMo1986; 10-20-2021 at 02:22 PM.. |
