Default Yellowfin time in Louisiana

Just back from 2 solid days of fishing in Venice, LA. Day one was YFT. 60 miles out in the Gulf. First we netted some pogies which was our bait. When we reached the fishing grounds, the first 3 strikes were sharks. After that, the tuna showed up. We went 6 for 6 on the YFT to 90 lbs.
After that we ran into mahi. It was all the mahi you wanted.
Day 2 was the opener for red snapper season. A quick run to the oil rigs...and we were on them immediately. We limited out (2 per man) in an hour. After that it was catch and release. We easily could have had 40 or so...but only kept our limit. ( good thing as the Louisiana wardens pulled us over coming in, did a safety check, a license check and a fish check).
Really fun time in an interesting place!

Thumbs up Re: Yellowfin time in Louisiana

Cool report, my guess is a charter boat and not a party boat.

Yes, it was a six man charter on a 48 foot catamaran. That thing had 4 300 hp Yamahas. It really hauled on the trip out and back.
