This time it was Spruce Run. Why do people think it's ok to go out on the water with wind gusts to 30 mph?

.
That was a twelve foot motor boat that capsized. Must be some serious wind. Both these guys are my age and they're out fishing on a Thursday morning. Have you ever felt like you're the only one who has to work all week? .

I've been on Round Valley a few times when mother nature turns ugly. You need to know when to call it quits.
But I never came close to flipping my 14' deep v. I wonder if these guys had a jon boat. I'd worry about taking a 12' jon boat out in the wind. Glad they're both okay.

![]() As for the wind, I think anglers forget that even on calm days, there is always a breeze coming across the water. Basically the wind is funneled over the water since there is no obstruction. The larger the water, the bigger the breeze. If they forecast wind gusts to 30mph, you can add another 4-6 mph over water. I have no scientific proof of this but it sure feels windier.

I agree with that theory. I blame manufacturing moving overseas for this. Some people are finding it harder to find work and are making less money when they do settle for a job, hence more unemployed and under-employed people fishing during the week. (I won't even go into the effects of immigration here.) The irony is there are fewer licenses being sold now, but it appears the people who do buy licenses are spending a lot more time fishing. That said i grew to company foreman in just under 3yrs trying to get people to come to work is a freaking joke our starting pay was good starting pay i think its just a sign of the times! Back to fishing now worked out on bertran island the last few days and hopatcong has been a real but kicker only boat i seen out was a 24ft cc setting no wake bouys and they were rocking and a rolling no place for a 14ft lol
