Default Lake Leffords Matawan

I have a small boat with an electric motor and am planning on trying this lake. I live a mile away so I can go any time. Does anyone have any info or tips they would like to share? I am interested in crappie, perch pickeral and largemouths. Catfish too!

The lake has a population of golden shiners so using baits like big spinnerbaits and aggressively fished jerkbaits will produce. I prefer white, silver, and gold. Some days they'll only hit on very natural looking baits.

i used to fish lefferts as a kid along ravine drive. mom would drop me off with my brother and we always did pretty well from shore with the sunnies, bass and catfish. i caught my first pickerel ever there probably around 1988. casting and reeling a piece of bacon. im going to try and hit it this summer with my kayak. completely forgot about that place since i moved out of monmouth county. my goal this summer is to hit every lake i fished as a kid in the mon county area with my yak, lefferts, shadow lake, topanemus, marlu, maybe even turkey swamp.

i wonder if the guy at molders would let me bring my kayak LOL

That's a cool goal....Should bring back a ton of great memories. Good luck with it and post up on your adventures. Pics are always appreciated too.

Lefferts is a great lake for pickeral and crappie but I have found it a tough place for bass. I like to fish it in the spring and early summer before the weeds becomes too thick and limits the types of lures you can throw. Spinnerbaits, soft and hard jerkbaits and weedless spoons do well there, but a curly tail grub on a jig head will catch anything that swims in the lake. When Topanemus was drained years ago the fish that were save were stocked in Lefferts so the should be a decent population of channel catfish there but I have not fished for them.
