Largemouth bass behavior is fascinating.
Although the nest requires a female to lay the eggs, the eggs are actually guarded from predation by the male. The male bass will even stay with the fry after the hatch for a short while. Day-and-night he has to keep those helpless little fry from getting picked off by sunfish and the like. When the bass is removed from the nest, all the fry could be quickly devoured.
