I know it’s gonna be a year long hockey thread of great fun posting and reading each other’s replies but I can’t start this out by first mentioning what’s going on in Vegas right now.

Tough to start a fun hockey thread with all that’s happened. I’m speechless right now. I’m sure this will evolve into a great season long thread and reading back on it during the Cup playoffs will be interesting.

Well, got my first NHL reg season game watched under my belt last nite. Felt good to see a game that mattered!!! Blues Pens was a pretty good watch. Cindy in mid season form, hacking at the back of guys legs and complaining to the refs.

amen on the return of hockey guys. my stars play vegas tomorrow and its televised. I should get nhl center ice package. was listening to nhl radio and one guy said he didn't see the rangers making the playoffs. now I don't see that . my tournament partner and I were chatting on canister reservoir last weekend and were speculating if grabner will have a similar season to last year??? plus I think there starting a rookie center tonight on the top line ???? did I hear that right ?????

Anyone watch/catch portions of the Wings/Wild? Started watching at the half way 2nd period. Very chippy play BUT what stuck out the most was how many empty seats for opening nite?

Oiy!!! definitely a disappointing opening night for Ranger fans.... started with a Great digital light show and then the mediocre play took over .... no toughness and so many odd man rushes that they couldn't finish. :( so many chances but no one could find the back of the net but Zib....

AV comments after the game.... it was an "Entertaining Game" .... hahaha, yeah if you were a Colorado fan!!! He is Delusional!! Rangers did not look hungry for a win and they better wake up or they will get killed by Good Teams ...

And 18 yr old Chytil didn't get enough ice time cause there were so many PP & PK's and he's not out there for them...

Not sure what cable company you have, but some of them do a free preview of the Center Ice package. Usually through the whole month of October. Last night, I was flipping back and forth between Bruins/Preds and Sens/Caps. Missed all three of Ovechkin's goals :p Saw Derrick Brassard's goal and 2 assists. Bruins looked real good to start. Oh, and 10 to 1. Let me say that again, it feels very nice. TEN to ONE! That was how the Penguins got embarrassed last night! Flyers got blanked on the second leg of their back-to-back 10 o'clock road games. Now onto Anaheim for another 10 o'clocker on Saturday. Rough way to start the year. I fell asleep during the first period! Should make it all the way through Saturday's game though.

Got home from work at 1 AM, alarm went off at 5 AM. Sat up and said eff this, boat is staying on the trailer today.

Back up at 8 and on a whim decided to take the apple that fell far from the tree (my kid who for some unknown reason is a Devils fan.:mad:) to the season opener at the Rock.

....off to our first game of the year. Not my Bees but hockey is hockey no matter what teams ya watch.

Duff same with your bruins and went through the same when my son was a teen with the Devils but now at 31 he has a mini season plan at the most famous arena MSG and is all in with the Rangers so they do get over it.

Not sure if I should drive down the shore to watch the game at SplitShot's house (yes I'm inviting myself over Larry) or go to the Habs meet up party in NYC. The last time I did that resulted in a loss in last year's playoffs. Have a feeling the red light will be on tonight at Larry's with three new defenseman in Habs lineup this season. Carey Price will see more rubber than B.F. Goodrich.

It's game # 3 and I'm already calling for GM Marc Bergevin's head. This guy, a journeyman his whole career, still has over $8 million in cap space burning a whole in his pocket. Gone are Markov, Emelin, and Beaulieu replaced with Alzner, 19yo Victor Mete and 39yo Mark Streit; that defensive pairing should be called the Young and the Restless!

I agree with the dee pairings. they worry me too although as a stars fan I don't think methot is the solving of our defensive issues. I am hearing rumors that vegas is shopping shea thoedore but, as with any defenseman, what are ya gonna give up for him. im sure vegas wants picks . my stars are 0-2 but lets not hit the panic button yet. I do agree that teams are more evenly matched these days, and a fast start helps but im not ready to hit panic button yet .

Well.... glad Hank redeemed himself and kept the team in it for a win, but shooting practice on odd-man rushes better be #1 priority at practice today :rolleyes: My god, they can all break the plates in the 4 corners in shooting exhibitions but noone can hit the corners in the game. Grabner is not starting off like last year and Nash's shots are so predictable, every goalie knows exactly what to expect from him..... you can go right down the line and other then Zib, they all need target practice!!!

I actually thought the addition of shaw and some "sandpaper" players was a good thing last year but like ya said loosing all those guys is tough. mark streit I never got that and honestly karl alzner got a mega deal but so far 3 assist and minus 5 , no power play points . I don't get it .im not sure what type of team they are. keep positive , im a stars fan so im use to staying loyal and dealing with pain

Time for a complete shakeup right from top of organization down.... time to boot Glenn Sather, (the biggest problem) Gorton, (Sather's puppet) AV and his coaching staff and bring in John Davidson as Pres, Messier as GM and let them decide on coaches that WILL WORK together with this team and make some tweaks that will get them on a winning path.... I was adamant last season that Scott Arniel HAS TO GO (the architect of a pathetic PP ever since he was put in charge of it) and terrible offense... and changing the D Pairs every game is never going to let these guys get used to each others game ... it's pathetic shuffling everyone, every game :(

If they lose tomorrow night to Coyotes, and heads aren't rolling, they deserve to sit in the cellar this year.... :mad:

Finally... Rangers came out flying and the new 4th line were Great together... don't really care it was only against Coyotes cause in the end we got 2 pts and hopefully some confidence... thank god they stopped that rediculous 11 F and 7 D crap and let guys play and get used to the same partners all night...play did get sloppy during the game and we still need our top guys to be able to bury the puck with all the chances they had again .... especially with the inexperienced goalie they had :rolleyes:

Well... came home from a Halloween Party at 1am and watched the Rangers/Habs game replay.... back to losing ways again.... tired of guys not putting in a full 60 minute game, getting bullied around by a shrimp, refs missing calls, AV with hardly any emotion being in last place, (Ruff is starting to look more like the coach back there)..... beating NO WINS Coyotes just prolonged the changes needed immediately... it's time to UPSET THE APPLE CART!!! :mad:

I watched that game and cringed...... claw back and tie it against a team with thin dee only to blow it on late goal. the rangers have the pieces to make the playoffs but it seems like they get too cute or loose confidence. fishing and hockey don't have too much in common but the one thing they do is its a mental / confidence game too. fishing wise since mid sept to this weekend its been atrocious . took off some days in oct to get the skunk. weekends skunk too. not much better this weekend. things will change if they ( or I ) stay the course or simplify the plan. lundquist has had a rocky stretch before and I know he is older but still . the dee in front of him is better than montreals . that's a game they should have had

I wholeheartedly agree BD... all these guys can play well as we've seen in certain games, it's the leaderships gameplan that does not bring out the best in these guys .... new coaches with a new direction should work wonders... tomorrow night's game will be the tipping point for sure!! Vegas was impressive for 2 periods, great positional hockey and speed. Of course Oscar gets one on us. BRING HIM BACK!

Anyway great 3rd period and I really hope AV learned something as in KEEP Krieder, Buchnevich and Mika together. 3 goals and 4 assists for that line alone. Mika great on faceoffs and took over the third.

Hank OK enough to win and really can only fault him on the penalty shot through the wickets, rest of their goals were sloppy play in front of him.

AV saved his job for another day but better keep these lines together. Or I am telling Mom

Thankful for finally getting 2 points BUT..... we still gave up 4 goals, looked lost making mistakes first 2 periods, and I think they woke up in the third thinking they might as well hang their heads in shame if they lose again to a 4th STRING GOALIE!!! :rolleyes: But no doubt I'm still thrilled to get a W!!

FYI: one of my fishing club members won our Asbury Park Fishing Club Tournament this past weekend with a 41Lb bass on the beach... so maybe we'll see some bigger fish coming in now with the water cooling down :)

its been an interesting start to the season here is something to think about. maybe a bad start by the rangers isn't terrible. why you ask???? most teams are so close and ya wanna get out to a quick start but the favorites of pitt, wash, Toronto and some others aren't exactly setting the world on fire. tama bay is and no surprise. from this point of view the door is still open . I mean can the devils stay on top ? I don't think so . Ottawa is interesting with 5 ties . they find a way to win and I believe in the system they play but I cant see them any higher . jackets sure there legit. islanders playing well and Tavares is wrecking things I could see them moving into a middle seed. Pittsburgh are looking human and backup goalie situation is killing them. rangers are only 3 points out of a playoff spot .

the reason the rangers aren't doing good is simple. I have lundkquist , kreider, zuccarello and I just picked up buchnevich for fantasy hockey. whoever I pickup turns to mush. just like the guy from Bronx tale :)

Price has not looked right, especially his lateral movement. Now he's out with a "minor" lower-body injury. You saw what happened 2 years ago when they said the same thing. I'm afraid it's going to be a long year up in Montreal.

Rangers really starting to play to their potential and couldnt agree more BD that team play both ends is good and Split that Buch is becoming the player we hoped for! AV staying with the line combinations has been the key to the winning streak. Hank is holding his own Duff and yes held off the surge when the bruins got going.

Even though the texts kept coming in that the Bass Bite WAS ON yesterday afternoon, I stayed in to watch the Rangers win their 6th in a row, so I was happy :D I knew I could go out this whole week and hopefully the bass will still be here.... ya the stars wrecked em. I actually told a buddy of mine during the day I didn't think we would beat the isles. that win I figured would help ya out :D. stars will be in NYC area mid December. would like to try to see them that Friday in Newark but with work I gotta see how I pans out. there in the garden on a Tuesday so no way I can get in then. ive been working a lot so just to watch a whole game the next few weeks is tough.

fishing wise, I actually just ran to my boat garage and started to get her ready for hibernation. we fish the Hackensack river and other area tributaries for them but its been numbers with the occasional decent one. im in sales so with the holidays coming, customers stocking up and wanting to spend as much family time as I can it gets a little tough to fish. I took my boat to canisteer last sunday and actually had a rather good day considering its been dead for me since labor day. in typical fashion the bite gets good when I gotta work more. to fish for 4 hours, clean the boat then work in the afternoon it gets too much. after the holidays maybe we will head up to the hoosatanic in Connecticut to striper fish. I got out a lot this year so I cant complain .

Got out yesterday to get on the wild bass bite from Saturday... but what a difference 1 day makes and no matter where we went or tried, no bass for us :( I think every boat in the tri-state area heard about Sat's bite and trailered their boat to the shore yesterday.... haven't seen that many boats inshore from Manasquan to Monmouth Beach ever!! :rolleyes:

Great to see the Rangers play a good 60 min game and get rewarded by totally frustrating the Senators... Karllson was fuming at his team! :D Nice to see Smith getting gritty and the 5 min PK was a work of art!! Loved it!! Last report before Xmas Break: Rangers are a dismal, mediocre bunch of guys with no direction from a failing Coaching Staff.... can't keep control of the puck, no fight in anyone, the great defense they thought they had in beginning of season is awful, always turning the puck over, worst 5 on 3 PP I ever witnessed last night, and I feel bad that Hank is playing his heart out and if it wasn't for him, these games would be routs!! :mad: You can't play hard for 10 -20 min a game and think you'll win .... and that's been the M.O. of this year's team.

There isn't even a core of solid players to build around right now... the whole team is lost out there and time for big changes from management on down and try to get back in for 2nd half of the season...at least start with a new coaching staff and see if they can jump start these guys into being HOCKEY PLAYERS AGAIN!!! I'm tired of this Goody 2 Shoes hockey!! :(

I have been watching some of the world juniors. more so than the nhl lately . honestly I don't mind 3 on 3 overtime but im not a fan of the shutout. an intresting idea I heard though is to keep the blueline the same but for the defending team to clear the puck it would have to be center ice. I thought this would increase offensive zone play but not sure if it would cut down on OT

My major beef with it is they play a hard fought 60 minutes and reduce it to a pond hockey game then an exhibition shootout. That ain’t hockey!

Play 60. 10 minute overtime 5 on 5. Winner gets 2 points. Loser gets 0. If game still ends in a tie neither team gets a point. Gives them incentive to play hard in ot and not sit back to collect 1 point.

Well... back to the mediocre Ranger effort again and couldn't even hold on to get the 2pts against a low confidence Detroit team :rolleyes: Nash once again can skate circles around guys but just can't finish burying the puck when it counts :confused: Zib isn't the same yet since he came back, Fast is certainly missed out there, Hayes was the only uptick we had going, PP was horrendous (Mr. Scott Arniel, the coordinator), and AV's decision to put Shatt in for that 3rd shooter in the SO was bordering on Criminal!!! Lettieri would've had a better chance then him :(

Yes, I'm pissed that we're halfway through the season and the inept management are just letting this team go down the highway on 3 tires and "hoping" something will change :mad: The only consistency this team has is their INCONSISTENCY!!!

Glad I had the game to watch and relax after a late night of partying ;) No answer on the nets but camera angles were making me more dizzy then the Whipped Chocolate Vodka Shots!!! Terrible perspective of the game... sometimes feeling like I was a bird circling above :rolleyes: And some of those seats were sooooo far away, i don't know how they even can tell what was going on :D

Once again my opinion that the Rangers are a mediocre team right now in need for some changes continues... they made last place Buffalo look good!! Scott Arniels 5-4 PP's are horrendous but I guess management turns a blind eye to it.. and some of our top guys must've been caught up in the moment of the hoopla, or possible part frozen, because they didn't do much to win this game...

Split: We got the 2 pts but yes definitley "frozen" at the start of the Third. Could see that Sabres goal coming a mile away albeit it took only 27 seconds.
All in all another great winter classic game to watch at home warm! Sabres beat the Devils the previous game and have looked pretty good for awhile now so no easy games in this league of ours.

Its all the extra passing thats killing us. OT Goal simple, Shot finally and finally on NET, rebound, tap in, GAME OVER. Not that hard lol

Same here BD... been a devout Ranger fan since 1965... we have good players but the coaching is more the problem because they're not motivating and coordinating this team to play their best and rarely play a full 60 minutes each game.... I've been saying for years they really need to get rid of "President for Life" Glen Sather and get someone like John Davidson to re-structure the management of this team.... it's a shame cause we have one of the best goalies in the league to build around, but time is slipping away :(

I know what you mean BD... over the years we seem to get the short end of the stick on trades... how many guys got traded away and turned out great for other teams and the guys we get flopped!! Fixing our defense this season has definitely flopped and AV still can't figure out who should play with who on offense and we're already in the 2nd half of the season :confused: Of course it's only my opinion, but I think HE is the problem and doesn't matter who we trade for cause he doesn't know how to play them... and physicality has almost been completely been eliminated from this team's game :(

I agree AV and his half ass line changes are a huge problem as well as our PP and plan to get out of our own zone. very frustrating. Pavel Buch went silent when demoted now back on a top line and scores as does Nash.

Only tough guy now is Brendon Smith but thats Ok as the league only has 1 per team now anyway

Glad to see Nash finally getting puck love in goals. He certainly deserves it as he works 60 minutes a game.

While the sabres may be a last place team I think they have lost 10 or more by 1 goal to a lot of top teams so no slouch and a good win both in the WC and last night.

Shattenkirk now out indefinitlly as well so a trade may be required for a D MAN and Center but we have a lot of stock and some dead wood "quality vets"

Happy with their play and the coaching of Cassidy. Young guys coming on quicker than I expected. All that being said, January was a kind month to them as far as who and when they played. Feb will be much tougher, just gottta keep grinding out points.

I've been calling for AV's head since he got blown out by the kings in the finals. The guy doesn't have what it takes to win it all, plain and simple. he's been deep into the playoffs so many times and hasn't even come close (no getting embarrassed and crushed in the finals does not count as getting close).

he's out coached every game, losing to teams with much less skill in the line up i'm tired of it! Maybe the players don't respect him enough to play their hardest, idk, but any way you slice it, it falls back on him and he's needed to go for a long time now.

well after watching my dallas stars last night I have say I agree with ya guys. ya maybe a coaching change is in place. I thought by now the rangers would have it turned around. I heard nash gave a list of teams to be traded to. one of them being dallas and im not so sure about that. id take another defenseman . I think is a drive problem. they should be soo much better than what there showing. so far this season the rangers, oilers Anaheim and Chicago have under achieved. now vegas what the heck happened there, boston and nj have over achieved.... Not firing AV who has constantly played mind games with all our players and getting a new interim coach with a different system is beyond me :confused:

We were only 3 pts out of a playoff spot and as bad as things have been going, we have a bunch of good players, just piss poor coaching, and a new system possibly could have turned the season around, just like it did for other teams the last few years and have done well with a coaching change....

AV's lousy system ruined some of our good players who went on to play well again under a new coach .... and I keep saying to get rid of Sather, Gorten and AV before they get rid of a whole team who will go on to play better for another team :(

You are so right BD... in all my years as a devoted Ranger fan I've never seen such a mess as they are in now..... you can go out and get a whole new team of players, but if they don't can the whole coaching staff, the problem ain't going away.

AV should of been let go by mid-season and see if a new system would've worked with all the players they had instead of just trading away everyone... they had nothing to lose seeing the situation they're in now...:(

Lindy Ruff has done an atrocious job all season with this defense and certainly doesn't deserve to move into the head coaching job if AV is shown the door... I've been calling for new management team all season but it just ain't happening :rolleyes:

the bruins i didn't have doing much this year initially i believe but im in now. holden will be a depth guy. they built a dee core thru the farm and draft. chara being the exception. mcavoy, krug, mquaid .
plus , spooner is having a good season. were did he come from. im liking boston. can they get by Toronto or tb?????

Don’t know what to make of this trade???? Have no clue about Holden other than he’s a LH defensemen.

Watched O’gara play in Providence and your getting a career AHL player. Heck, the Bees wouldn’t call him up in the playoffs last year even though the D was decimated!

That 3rd round pick should turn into a #90-95 player picked in draft. Not a bad deal for the B-shirts.

Glad we shipped Holden off... started off good but then got Rangeritus and was horrible, just like everyone else we trade for.... :( Management & AV system is what's broken and until dimwit owner Dolan can get his head out of his butt and can the whole lot of them, you could trade for the whole All-Star Team and still wouldn't help :mad: Been a dedicated fan since 1965 and this mess goes beyond just changing the head coach.... our players will shine again with other teams, mark my words!! :rolleyes:

Here is a little good news...

New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider has been medically cleared to play, though his return won't come Thursday. Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault said Kreider will not travel with the team to Montreal for Thursday's game, but could play either Friday or Sunday.

If Kreider could get back into his top form quickly, AV get the ax, and the rest of the team show they can play much better under a new system.. Hey..we still have time to at least make the 1st round of the playoffs :D. I just hate to give up in February :rolleyes:

i used to say you need at least 90 points to make the playoffs but looking at our conference its closer to 100. So even at 90 points we would need to win minimum 16 out of 22 or worse 21 out of 22
Dont see it happening either way. Also kreids is on the block in the trade rumor mill along with JT and zucc. Will be interesting to see how the next 4 days play out.

we trade gab for a 2nd round draft pick???? about last night,are we waving the white flag and calling it a season.i guess those peeps that spent their hard earned monies to purchase tickets for last nights game really got their monies worth.this is worst than the german's bombing pearl harbor.
