Starting to do some research about a trip Id like to take with my step dad. Looking for some advice/ideas. So heres what I got. Id like to float the upper delaware water gap or the section in NJ. My partner is about 65 and has some health issues but nothing to crazy. I have a 16 foot scanoe with a 30 pound thrust electric out board(would you even bring it?) Im thinking yes just so I can go over spots more then once. Ive floated the river up by barryville a bunch of times but never a overnight trip. Id like to set it up where we float camp float again then leave. I see in nj you can use campsites along the river free of charge with a minium distance traveled on the river. Im looking for info on best ways to do it. Where. WHEN. My basic idea is park a car at the starting and midway camping point. Have the camping gear in the midway car. Get there set up then the next day pack up and move the car from starting pouint to the end and float the remander of the trip. I realize alot will depend on us and conditions etc but any suggestions on distance per day? 10 miles7 hoursish I figure? I like to fish small mouth on the river so I prefer to go when they are in season. And wherever I camp Id like to set up for cat fish at the camp site. Any ideas/advice/suggestions are greatly appeciated.

Crusier: Sounds like a pretty nice adventure u'd like to plan with ur step dad..I'd check out the web site Paddlers Guide To the Delaware.. For starters, good chance u can get some valuable info there..Some great trout river guides also around that may advise..Gone Fishing Guide Serv..is one but I think he's on the upper stretches..He comes down to the sport shows usually in Feb or Mar mite meet up and talk with him one on one..Names Tony Ritter..He has a web site also..Good luck in ur adventure..If u pull it off be sure and post up the results..Bet other guys would like to duplicate a trip like that..

I've done several multiday kayak float trips on the Deli. The one resource that has been invaluable to us is Canoeing the Delaware River by Gary Letcher. You can find it on Amazon or any local outfitter. It's a detailed guide book of every nook and cranny the river has to offer including all public and private campsites, launches, cool historical perspectives about different sections of the river, etc... It also has detailed info in every rapid and eddy out there. It doesn't have much fishing perspective but you will find the spots by reading the river as you travel. If you haven't done much of the NJ section I'd suggest floating through the Walpack Bends. If you want to float the Gap plan your trip to end at the take out just down river of the I-80 bridge because camping spots are scarce below the Gap. You will be fine with the square back. The trolling motor would help you get around also as long as the river isn't flowing far above normal.
