View Full Version : Big Girls Coming Out to Play in Union County

I made it out to a local lake in Union County Sat and in addition to a few LMBs not worth posting I caught this 4.5 lb beast. She put up a tremendous fight and snapped my line when I tried to lift her out of the water. I was not losing this fish so I jumped in and basically wrestled the thing on to the bank. I managed to get a hook through my palm for my trouble (it was worth it). I also saw TONS of bass cruising the shallows. I didn’t see any on the beds yet but it won’t be long. I have to say, pre-spawn is definitely my favorite time of the year!

Great fish!! Pre spawn is my favorite time of year for bassing too!

Great fish...great story...Ha! Now that's what ya call hand to hand combat fishin. Heart must have been pumpin on that one. Nicely done.

How did you get the hook out of your hand?

Sadly this isn’t my first rodeo when I comes to hooking myself. Last time it was a trailer hook through my thumb and I had no tools and had to drive home with a spinnerbaits hanging from my thumb. This time I was prepared - a pair of pliers to pinch the barb (which was fortunately protruding from the meat of my palm) and then the hooks slides out with suprisingly little resistance. You can also cut off the barb if you have the right tools. The next day the entire area was swollen and painful so I took some amoxicillin I had left over to give my immune system a little help fighting any infection and 4 days later it is pretty much healed. Still worth it:-)
