Maybe it was operator error. All I know is that when we were trying to retrieve hooks from some blue sharks (leaders were cut short by whoever released them) we had a hell of a time. Ended up using pliers to grab the hooks.
I'm looking for something longer that's why I tried the ARC.

I could see how it wouldn't work with a short leader.... there has to be tension on the leader for the de-hooker to work.... it's not designed to remove hooks that aren't attached. I don't know of anything other then pliers that would work in that situation.

If you do end up getting an ARC it comes with a video that will explain a couple of ways to use it but they all require tension on the line.
