Lightbulb Re: Shad return to the Paulinskill

The great thing about this is you can NOT target shad outside of the main stem of the Delaware river.

It's not "angling", it's scientific sampling. You know, to report back to f&g........

A dam is removed, and now the fish that were once below the dam are now found upstream. Who would have thunk it?

ACABTP when is that flyer from ?

the digest use to say the same thing about not targeting them except in the Delaware it no longer says that .
It now says you can’t keep any from anywhere but the Delaware.

I ask because their are guys targeting them in the Raritan , and they were told as long as they are all released it is ok to fish for them .

.

yeah i dunno. i guess it depends how they want to enforce a "closed season"? i don't remember there being a fish code change for this, maybe it's just an enforcement policy thing? i looked in the digest too and "closed season" seems to be all it seems to say for waters other than the delaware. does that technically mean no targeting? what about the closed season on bass, plenty of catching (& releasing) of them goes on between now and june, do they just not enforce that?

The only NJ freshwater that you can target shad is the Delaware River.

All others NJ freshwaters are closed.

Question Re: Shad return to the Paulinskill

Guys are targeting them on the Raritan ? That I would like see !
Shad numbers are hardly robust enough for people to actually target them.

And, most importantly, hardly robust enough to be considered a stable population. The Raritan & Paulinskill have recovering populations. That's why they are closed to fishing.
