Default Hudson River need a little help

Hay guys I'm launching the boat out of atlantic highlands fish up here all the time but never want up the river the family wants to see New York form the boat is there any thing to watch out for heading up the river I know there is a lot of ship traffic going in and out thanks for any help

Just steer clear of Hoffman and Swinburn Islands which are closer to Staten Island and on your way. I attached a chart below.... You will see there are some shallows around them you should avoid especially around low tide... Other than that you should be fine...

Water does run pretty good through the narrows so if you are a smaller boat and concerned with that you might want to time it around slack tide.

Its a lot easier if you stay closer to the Brooklyn side, less ship and tug traffic. Try to go up on the end of the flood tide because the ebb runs really strong.

The conditions around Battery Park where the two rivers merge is usually pretty rough due to all the ferry traffic. Once you get north of the Holland Tunnel, sea conditions tend to improve. By the time you reach the Intrepid Sea Museum, it should be pretty calm. If you can time your trip and travel with the incoming and outgoing tides it will make the trip a little easier. Not sure what size boat you have but those ferries tend to create large wakes. Enjoy your trip. It will be worth the ride.

Thx again guys for all the help we want up to the Statue of Liberty
and turned around it was a nice ride. We want fishing after that for some fluke it was a slow day till the end last drift the wife got a 6.5 lb. 25-1/2" fluke me and my son got a keeper each.
