Default "Jigging"

After reading "John Skinners" Fishing The Edge book (great by the way) I wanted to get some more input on this jigging method. Can't really afford one his Dark Matter rods too pricey what does the specs of the rod need to be?length rating etc. I want to see if any of my 12 rods that I own would fit the bill or maybe something close thanks for any tips although I did buy a Quantum Accurist bait caster reel already (it was my birthday LOL)

Go I guess you mean Summer Flounder/Fluke and are going to be fishing the ocean?

If so, you'll likely be fishing 2 - 4 ounce jigs most days or more if you have a faster drift. Fluke are very aggressive so it's not like you're going to have to spend a lot of money on a more sensitive and lightweight rod to feel more subtle bites like you would if you're Blackfish jigging..

For this reason you can probably get away with almost any rod you have that's rated in the 15 - 25 pound pound class (give or take). You don't however want the tip to be too soft or you won't get the action you want transferred down to the jig when jigging the tip of the rod.

All rods manufactures are different in how they rate actions so I would say in general at least a medium or in some cases a heavy or MH and you'll find most are using 7 - 7 1/2 foot rods.

Gerry
Thanks, your input I do appreciate it a lot, I do have a rod that fits the bill, I will be fishing in the back bays of Ocean city once my Uncle returns from Fla. (snowbird)we fish off a pontoon boat if that makes any difference and hope do do some charters and party boats along the coast once the weather brakes.
Thanks to the other anglers who responded can"t wait to get out there Tight Lines
