Default Epic rocket fest

summer ended with a nice cold snap and as I stood out side at work Thursday and felt that chill in the air I knew I had to go fishing! It was rainy, windy, and chilly and it was just me and a wind surfer on the lake. As soon as I started putzing across the lake I was completely engulfed in diving gulls!

I threw a popper a few times but no fish were really busting. So I grabbed my fly and started jigging it instantly starting what would be 2 hours of rocket battles! 8 bryds landed and 1 lost with at least 7-9 smacks without hookups.

That's about 1 every 15 minutes including unhooking and some pics! Also, I ran over some sausage smackers discarded braided line and wasted about 20 minutes taking my prop off and cutting a crap ton of line out while gulls dove all around me...talk about being pissed off haha.

Only one fish was small, most were 22-23.5" with a few 21 inchers. All caught 10' deep in 20-40' of water, although I'm pretty sure it didn't matter this day!

This is why we own rain gear!

Nice, love the peel of drag when one of those fellas hit. The telltale head shake, followed by the ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Is there anything else in fresh like it?

The 20" + guys are the ones I was chasing in the wind / wet - the ones landed were close but not quite that big.

Well done

Some healthy looking fish there Chris. You put the time in so it's good to see that time pay big dividends. Great job!

The sausage smacker? Idk but if he threw all that line in the water purposely, one of the biggest smackers I've ever seen! I'm just hoping it didn't damage the new motor. It's definitely nice to not have to work so hard for the fish once in a while! Still no 24" plus for me this year but I've been with others for about a dozen 24" plus haha. Still plenty of time!
