Default Daiwa Saltist 30 Locking Up

I've had the reel used it twice both times for tog. Hook the fish had it at least 1/2 to the surface and the reel locked up. Turn the handle nothing happens, fish gets back into wreck breaks me off. When reel was in storage drag was completely loosened. Ideas whats causing this and how to fix it?

That is really hard to say, but is there a possibility that you line is crossed over however many feet down and it is locking spool. Just a thought, a brand new reel used twice should be able to be returned if it's mechanical. Good luck.

If you turn the handle and nothing happens but the fish goes back down it sounds like it goes into free spool and not locking up. Sounds like free spool lever isn,t locking in all the way.

When you say it is locking up, does the handle freeze or you turn the handle and it does not reel in any line? Pretty sure I know what your problem is and it is not mechanical...
