Default Baitcaster “Sticky” Drag

I have a 10 year old quantum baitcaster antix AN100H that’s drag is not smooth all the time. It is fine some times but then others it binds and “jerks” and feels like it is sticking to something. I took it apart and cleaned everything and lightly oiled the spool shaft and bearings to no avail. Drag washers look ok but I am no expert. Any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks in advance

Hi - I just serviced three Quantum Accurist AC500PT baitcasters today. All were pre-owned. Not sure if they are similar to your reels. I did find that the backside of the main gear (made of brass) on two of the reels had minor corrosion where one of the drag washers makes contact. It was enough to catch a fingernail. I cleaned this up with alcohol and a brass brush. I also cleaned the drag washers and their contact surfaces throughly. All drag components received a light coat of Cals Drag Grease. The drag is much smoother now on all three reels. I hope this helps. Adam

I agree, remove the drags, and main gear, clean, you may want to invest the $ 10 and buy a set of carbon drags and grease them with cals grease. Then even if it gets splashed the drags will work until you can open and reclean.

thanks guys. I ordered up some replacement parts and will take your advise on thoroughly cleaning everything before installing.

@SNAPS any idea on where I can purchase carbonex drag washers?
