I am still waiting for them to explain why the musky hatchery that is about 10 miles away can raise multi species of trout and the state can only raise rainbows

Don't waste your time, it was wrought with technical difficulties and when it wasn't it was just a giant unproductive bitch session.

Bottom line is they only want to raise rainbows, that's fine I rather like it that when I catch a brookie or brown I know it's probably a wild fish.

Honestly I lost interest when the guide was bitching about the state not helping his business by not stocking browns. Dudes making a buck off of public waters where the fish stocked are paid for by the general publics licenses sales. Should be happy that they can guide for profit on a public domain. I wonder if I ran up on him while he was guiding a client if I'd get chased out of "his" water?

Great point regarding the Musky Hatchery and the state raising only Rainbows.

Assistant Director Barno, during the QA session at the end, provided a succinct reason why they are not rasining browns.

If my memory serves my right, Browns are more suspectible to furunculosis and if there is an outbreak there is a potential for introducing furunculosis into the water supply. It has something to do with the pequest water source being ground water where furunculosis is not present. In a surface water supply furunculosis is already present and not as much of a concern.

They just released 2 of the presentations which are ho hum:

Every hatchery has fernicolosis. It is a treatable disease and can be controlled. This is what happens when the powers to be come from non-game. Most of them don’t even hunt or fish.

Does the Musky Hatchery get its water from an underground spring?

I also thought the furunculosis outbreak was blamed on ospreys and herons transmitting the disease. If bird excrement is the source, wouldn't it make sense that they are spreading it in the wild, and NJ would have it in a naturally occurring manner similar to PA?

Sounds like the Hatchery is outdated and in need of a total replacement.
Other Hatcheries regardless of state or private raise Brown Trout with no issues.
The Pequest Hatchery has been delaying this for many years and excuses are no longer acceptable.
