Default Looking for the best value in fishing pliers

I'm looking to replace a 20 year old set of Van Staal fishing pliers. They were a gift from a friend a long time ago but someone on a crowded party boat a few weeks ago needed them more than me and removed them from my bag. I don't think I'll find a better set than they were but, I don't really want to spend the $300+ to buy another set. I'm just looking to you guys for real world advise on a quality tool for a lesser amount of $$$. Thanks

Should've been on your hip and not in your bag! I'd never let a set of pliers like that out of sight ever on a party boat. The accurate pliers are good. The prices range so dramatically it's purely a matter of budget and preference. I just grabbed an aluminum pair for like $30. Likely won't hold up very long but they serve their purpose.

Yeah I also have the Mustad 30 buck version. They last years just rince and WD them when you see fit. Not as good as the ones you lost though.

Exclamation Re: Looking for the best value in fishing pliers

Go with anything but Van Staal's
Had a pair had to cut a bluefish hook out of a guy and the cutter blade broke.
Refused to warranty the blades..
Bull S**t $300.00 for a set and your won't do whats right.
Never buy another product from them EVER.
Calcutta's are one of the best bag for the buck

Thank you gents for all the replies. I just got a message from a dear friend who must have also read this post. He tells me not to buy a new pliers but i should watch the mailbox! I'm blessed to have met some great friends through this sport and am thankful for them everyday. For every JERK I find on a fishing boat, there are 100 great friends whom I look forward to being around again.
