St Lawrence river

Heading up to the st Lawrence in June for sallies, any recommendations on places to stay that are waterfront and have a marina to dock the boat?

Check out Cape Vincent NY. You didn't say what area you were looking for.

We stayed here before and although the SMB didn't bite the Pike were there.
It was August

Not sure what your preferences are, do you want to be in town and within walking distance of shopping restaurants and bars, more remote or something in between.

We stayed in these cottages once http://www.fairwind.us/ and they do have a marina. Nothing fancy just like most places up there.

If you’d like to stay in a town look into places to stay in Clayton and Alexandria Bay. Alexandria Bay is a bit more touristy and there are more hotels in that area.

I've stayed in Alex Bay at Bonnie Castle Marina a few years back in the offseason (Nov). Price was reasonable and it was essentially right at Boldt castle. We struggled a bit to find smallies with the cold water, apparently we were there more at musky trolling season, but we found some on the shoals right near the hotel. Found a cloud of small shad and busted them up with dropshot rigs.

Dropshots are the way to go up there when the fish are deep...

There are some huge bass in the river these days, but the numbers are nowhere near where they were years ago... The Gobies have put a gigantic dent in the SMB population... They are fierce egg eaters, and simply overwhelm the nest guarding bass.. Up here most in the know local fishermen will not even attempt pre spawn catch and release fishing any more , because by the time the fish is hooked, then released, the gobies have swarmed the nest and eaten all of the eggs.

The fish are really big these days, because turnabout is fair play, and the adult SMB gorge on Gobies as they are everywhere, and congregate on the same rocky bottom as the bass do.

Might be a good idea if you have never been here, to hire a guide the first day, and you'll have a better idea as to where and how.. The days of just drifting a nightcrawler near bottom and cleaning up are pretty much over..

There are a ton of guides up here, and they know the best way and best areas to catch these fish at certain times of year... Thats what I would do anyway if I wanted the best shot at some big SMB in the " St. Larry",,,
