Default installing electronics.....

Gotr a quote to remove the current hummingbird and install my new lowrance. $250.00. Does this sound high? would do it myself, but it looks like a bitch running the transducer wire under the deck and out the bottom of the console.

$250 sounds reasonable to me... You might be able to do cheaper over the winter when these sorts of businesses are slower and need the work.

Not a real hard job if you are handy and patient. You just need to be sure and route the wires where they will not chafe, make sure your connections are made to a place where you won't get interference and you seal any wire connections with heat shrinks to avoid corrosion.

Don't pay! There's probably a 3" conduit down the center of your hull or may have them on the sides too-should be easily done just fish a piece of rope through first and fish it through- save the money for some bait or bunker spoons or something- lowrances are nice and easy to use

I have been doing a bunch of little stuff on my boat myself and been having a good go of it and been successful.

To run the wires for my Lowrance, to the engine, I used a stack snake and some electrical tape to make my way where I couldn't reach.

Lots of little projects can be done yourself and use the $250 for new cushions or something.

The bitch is spending the time working instead of fishing. Im gonna runs\ down tomorrow for 2 hours just for some maintenance work, hard not to want to run out instead, but stuff has to get done.

Let me know about the Mahi trip I posted about going sat or sunday if your still interested.

The $250 sounds reasonable if you don't want to do it yourself...It just seems like it could go to a better place, but its not my money.

I have so many other places on the boat that the $250 could go...Plus I ran a nema network through my engine and added 2 Icommand gauges and installed the basic lowrance setup, which is easier than it sounds.

Next time I have her out of the water Ill add the transducer, but four now its a GPS/CHartplotter.

Its even easier if there is other electronics there as you can just use the same access and transducer placement.

Its just time vs paying somebody else, but the skill set isn't very tough...IMO.

It does allow you the time to know your boat and see where things run for trouble shooting later....I learned a lot, just taking a cover off and looking around without touching anything or messing things up...Just know whats where.

you usually dont have to snake the wires if their was an old unit there, just tie a string on to the old transducer wire when pulling it out.
