Default Plain Lead Jighead vs. Painted Jig Head ?

I got my order of spro style jigheads from Sam the Sinkerman last week. The quality is always superb and the pricing is unbeatable. Thanks again Sam ! I am planning on using them this year for fluke jigging hard bottom. I would much rather lose a jighead with a gulp grub than a bucktail. Has anyone ever fished plain lead jigheads with grubs for fluke ? Did a painted jighead with same grub produce more fish ? Please let me know if anyone has had some firsthand experience with these.

Plain jig heads will fish just as good. Now..... if you coat them with a UV finish...they will out fish the painted heads. Give it a shot and see for yourself. No joke. I'm talking about a clear UV finish. Will look like a plain raw head to human eye. But.. let me know the results.. lol.

"Naked" jig heads work great. You can dress em effectively up a couple ways too. Squid skirts are a cheap way to add to the effect or simple colored surgical tubing on the hook. I've seen both produce quality fish.

Jersey Coast, where can I get the UV ? Ive tried powder painting which is too much work to be losing the jigs fishing the reef. I bought some rustoleoum fluorescent spray paint that I want to use to spray the jigs. I tested it in the garage and didn't work im assuming its too cold to spray paint. The paint was literally running off the jig heads. Any ideas on spray paint that will stick ? or is it just the weather being too cold ?

Realize you don't want to use powder paint but probably the best way to keep the paint on the jig . You can get a 2oz jar of the UV paint for $8 which will coat a ton of jigs for you....link below

Thumbs up Re: Plain Lead Jighead vs. Painted Jig Head ?

I think Tom has it in the store give him a call, he also has a black light box set up so you can see what your finished jigs look like.

XP, here is something I am going to try this year. This is 8oz jig with the barb/collar cut off and a wire keeper tied and epoxied on the hook. The hook comes right out where I want it too on the gulp grub. On the smaller jigs with smaller hooks I will have to cut a small piece off the grum. You can do this easy enough. If it works for me I will modify my molds to make this change permanent.

BTW... UV is also great for trolling ballyhoo too! This a shot of the tuna rockets that we make.

Notice the UV models, and then the neon green model that is NOT UV. You can see the difference here, for explanation.

How they look to us!
