Default Delaware float, and a Raritan river tank

We had planned a float trip on the west branch back in April, however at peak shutdown, we had to reschedule and we went on an early fall float.
Unfortunately West branch was too low to float and the main stem was sparse with cooperating trout. But we netted some small ones and lost bigger ones.
The SMB action was nearly nonstop and was a great experience. In addition, got two nice keeper-walleyes.

Last night I then hit the raritan. Cooler temps and low water convinced me to try the weightless fluke on a wide and rocky part of the river.
Stuck into a hefty 19 incher, and somehow that was the only fish of the night! Until I did some panfishing off the canal to make up for the lack of quantity

shoutouts to mike from sweet water guide service

Big D has a good supply of decent trout . I was an owner of a fishing lodge and campground and we were located on the banks of the WB !
Often times fly fishing at nite was the answer for some outsize trout ! However my personal favorite time to seek out outsize trout was during summer water release periods and heavy rains !
The rains would be my overall choice , especially when water was on the rise that could spell a great day !
I’ll never understand why the lower Raritan is not heavily stocked , decent water that can maintain holdovers !
