Instagram post of NJ angler keeping a tarpon…
…and it was WW3. Guy got shellacked for keeping it. I was shocked Tarpon run that far north, but it just continues toprove NJ has the best ocean fishing on the east coast. How long have tarpon been caught up here? One guy said 3 years.

They were caught occasionally maybe 1 or 2 per year since at least the early 80s, but not every year. I had one about 55lbs off Big Sea Bright jetty back in the mid 80s. Didn't hear of any from about mid 1990s until recently but maybe I am just out of that loop.
