I have a light 12 foot aluminum, so the pike took me for a little ride away from where we started the fight! But, yes, I released it back near where it came from. Took a little time reviving it, but it swam off and down on it's own. Hopefully it'll grow another 8 inches and pack on some pounds and vie for the state record. If not, I did my part so someone else can have a shot at the great experience that I had (or even me again if I'm so lucky).

Beautiful pike! The pike fishing has been tough there this year and I have mostly been getting small ones too.

A 38" is a rarity in NJ, congrats.

Congrats! That's a real nice pike. I'm working in Stirling & drive over the river every day, where it's a crick, but there's a few around there...maybe I'll figure out some doable access.

Wow real beauty, congrats! What would you guess the weight to be? Nice to see a pike not only with length but good girth, looks like she;s been feeding well. Tail on her is huge! Great job and the catch and release!

Thanks. I've looked at a couple online charts that have it around 14-16 pounds and I'd say it was probably right in the middle there. It's hard to believe the state record was only 8 inches longer but double the weight at 30 1/2 lbs!!!
