A friend recommended I use Permethrin to avoid ticks.

Re: Permethrin for ticks:
I heard it works very well. Treat your clothes and it lasts for a while even through several washings...not that you wash your clothes but figured it applied to others! Bwaaaahhh!

Re: Permethrin for ticks:
I heard about this in the camping world. Permethrin you treat you clothes unlike deet where you just spray it on like sunscreen.

Re: Permethrin for ticks:
Don't forget to treat your gear with it. Ticks can hitchike home with you on your pack, fishing vest, camera bag, softside tackle box, etc. It happened to me. I treated my clothing with permethrin, my skin with DEET then I came home and threw my clolthing in the dryer just in case, took a shower and checked my body for ticks. I was good. That night I fell asleep on the couch while reading. The next morning I woke up with a tick imbedded in my chest.
How the hell did that happen? Then I remembered throwing my backpack on the couch when I arrived home. I moved it out of the way to lay down on the couch. Apparently the tick rode in on my backpack, then jumped off onto the couch and was waiting for me. Last edited by briansnat; 05-05-2017 at 08:07 PM.. |

It's good stuff. Only apply to your clothing. The great thing about it is that it is not ony a repellent, it is an insecticide. Ticks that do jump on will die. That gives me a certain sense of satisfaction while hiking with Permethrin treated clothes. Come on you little bastards, go for me!
Also be very careful if you have cats. In its wet form it is highly toxic to cats. Once it dries it is safe. If you treat your clothing and gear, be sure to hang it to dry somewhere that your cats won't come in contact with it. |

Re: Permethrin for ticks:
Got mine off of ebay last week . Free shipping and big bottle treats four sets of clothes. The ticks are bad this year. I use repel 40 as well on my open skin.

Re: Permethrin for ticks:
Beat the banks of the SB from the confluence to the Studdiford bridge today. When I came out of the woods I looked down at my black sweatpants and boots and they were COVERED with ticks. Stripped down to my drawers on the spot, threw my stuff in the back of my truck and drove home in my boxers. Spent an hour and a half in traffic flicking ticks out the window, my skin still feels like its crawling! NEVER SEEN IT THIS BAD!!
