Default Ethanol Question

Just had a guy take my snow blower for repairs. Talked about treating gas and ehtanol problems. He told me that one grade up from regular ( plus ) gasoline does not contain ethanol. Was wondering if thats true. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks... Walt

That's not necessarily true. I believe all gas station gas has ethanol regardless of the grade. I tried looking for gas stations that sell ethanol free gas and there was one in Avenel but it's gone or they don't sell etanol free gas anymore. I had "Plus" gasoline disintegrate my gas line in my auger in a year. I buy premix 2-stroke fuel at the hardware store that has no ethanol. It would cost a fortune to run your car on it, but paying $10 or $20 a winter for gas to save my carb and my fuel lines is a no brainer.

One grade up is simply a mix of regular and hi octane. SO no that's wrong.

Must be sold as ethanol free fuel.

I use Stabil Alcohol in evry tank. Never had a problem... snow thrower, mower, OB, chain saw, etc.

As mentioned above not true here in NJ..... I know of no place where you can buy non ethanol fuel on the road. The premium grades still contain Ethanol. Some marinas used to carry it but not sure even they do anymore.

I do however know that in PA there are some places that do sell non ethanol fuel but it's only theiir premium grade.

Ethanol sucks..... You get worse fuel mileage, it does not store well, can screw up your fuel system and the alchol tends to absorb water which is really a big issue for boats.

Like Frank said... Best to use products like Stabil, especially if you know the fuel is going to be sitting for long peridos of time.... The other thing you can do with mowers, blowers, weed whackers etc is to drain the tank and run them dry before storing.

There is also a movement to increase the Ethanol % from 10 to 15... That will not only make matters worse.

Smile Re: Ethanol Question

In Ohio west of Cleveland has a few "boat" gas pumps. It usually 1 pump in back or off the the side. Runs a buck per gallon more (89) octane. My station runs it seasonally, may-October. Kinda stinks because I get stuck using the ethanol crap during duck season!!! I try to fill everything I got up before it goes away but never enough. I do notice the non ethanol runs smoother all summer!!

I have a 2004 merc. Are these "newer" motors just as susceptible to ethonal? I use stable every other fill up, but that is still once a week.

That's rediculous. One grade up is a mix of regular gas and hi octane gas inside the pump.
