Default Could these be meanmouth?

have been tapping into a bunch of 4 and 5 pound smallies. Recently caught a 4.54 pound, 22inch smallie that had uncanny similarities to a 4.62 largemouth that I caught.

Couldn’t help but think these fish shared an ancestor down the line.

Its possible of course, but would be considered rare in the wild.. Up here in NY state, a LOT of lakes contain both species, and I personally have caught them right alongside one another, although the "experts" say they prefer "different habitats".. I have caught LMB around rocky shores, and SMB around weedbeds plenty of times, so these fish go where they want when they want... I have caught all kinds of odd stuff that I thought might be hybrids, in the sunfish /black bass families, and with esox species as well... Here's an interesting and quick read on the topic...

It’s the smallie that is in question. Posted the largie for comparison.

Would be cool to find if they are reproducing. Hard to tell from the pic, a clear side view of the fish would make it easier to see her patterns. That perch i got beat my pb by ½an inch @14½". Any luck finding that remote on Saturday?
