Default Swordfish hook question

I have some Canyon time in the near future and
With the depressing tuna reports I’m seriously
Considering spending time with a swordfish rig
Out there. So just wondering what would be the
Most of practical hook size.
Thanks for any and all info
Chris

9/0-11/0 is the sweet spot. We have hooked them with smaller HD Tuna hooks but not ideal.

Use the smaller hooks for live bait and larger for dead baits. Hope this helps you.

My last sword was caught on a 12 circle hook with 8 feet of 80lb floro leader. the funny thing was it was only set 25 feet down with half a bluefish for bait.

We use the LED strobes. They clip on above or at the swivel before the leader starts. Weve raised a few using them

Strobes never used myself however standard light sticks have accounted for all my big swords shallow n deep . Most over 300# taken on the moon all on fresh rigged baits ! The only change I ever made was to double or triple lights when deep ! On the moon float lights on shallow lines on the surface above baits .
I’ve never deep dropped for swords , that method was not used very much 30 + seasons ago .
Make sure if rigging dead baits use hooks large enough to have plenty of bite after rigging !
I’ve taken 15 personally up to 500 #’s some just caught by accident on floated slick bait meant for tuna .
They are tough n fluff you never know which one is gonna kick your A !
