Default Trolling motor

Wires on my bow trolling motor somehow rubbed together through the plastic coating and shorted out the unit while fishing. I covered both melted spots with tape. It does work but only at max speed. It is. 45lb minnkota edge about 10 years old. Is it trash or something someone has heard of. It’s usable, but at max power it’s not ideal. Thanks

Sounds like it fried the speed control circuit which is a set of Resistors. Very similar to the fan speeds for your car blower. The car blower is one part for all controls. Parts are relatively cheap if you can find them. Minkota is a very good brand. Contact them and see. But labor may not make it worth it.

Do you need the lower speeds? Most people run use max 90% of time?

Is this the pedal or another gadget?

Thank Cpt Frank
Speeds 1.2.5 are working. 3 and 4 are not. It’s inside the foot pedal. I usually run at speed 3 while actually creeping around the weeds and the bank unless crazy wind like today. There is basically no room to work inside the pedal. Its ok at 5, just not ideal. I have a trolling motor on the stern also, it’s just so much easier fishing in front of boat. I will attempt to take apart, but it looks like I will get a new bow mount. Good times

Thank you NJsquatch, $20.00 with shipping and tax. Speed switch did the job. You saved me from buying a new unit. Not too difficult a job either. This is a reason I like this site, shared info. Thanks again.
