Fishing rivers in the winter conditions
Hi everyone i'm new to this forum but not new to fishing lol. I was wondering now that a lot of ponds have a thin layer of ice has anyone ever fished the river at Dukes island, millstone river or sixmile run during the winter? Want to see if there is any smallies, perch, pickerel, crappie and walleye were biting. Thanks everyone i appreciate any advice or help you can give me!

Re: Fishing rivers in the winter conditions
I had to look up Six Mile Run, that's down the lower end of Somerset.
We fish Duke Island in the winter, what ever you fish with it's low and slow, water temps today are around 34* We hit the S branch last week when it warmed up a tad and did ok. The D&R canal is giving up some perch and pickerel.

Re: Fishing rivers in the winter conditions
You're basically looking at the Raritan river and its tributaries. The millstone might have some rainbow trout atm but id say the larger quantity would be by the Duke island Park section of the Raritan river. Smallmouth dont bite(for me) in that river until like april, when water is 50F at least. Nothing really consistently bites like trout in this current temperature.
