More important than brand is the length and action of the rod. A rod with a moderate taper will send smaller lures farther. I would recommend a Mod or a Mod-Med action over a fast or extra fast action. Length is important too. I would recommend going with a 7'6" over a 7'. The other thing is that the wider the spool lip, the easier the line will come off of it. I would suggest a 2500 or even a 3000 over a 1000.

Probably one of the best buys out there is EDGE RODS , Gary Loomis new Rod company ! Those rods have one of the very best tapers to power ratio I've ever seen !
Their Delta series is priced in the $150 dollar range all American made product in Woodland Washinton and designed by Gary Loomis !
They have a good variety of spin rods that meet that criteria , the lure size you mentioned will cast fine with a.modeste to fast taper Rod . If you decide to cast user 1/4 oz moderate tapers load lighter lure easier .
However the lure size you mentioned fast taper is fine just stick to longer rods 7.6 and up .
Check website Edge Rods , believe me these rods are like no other !
I've been using Daiwa Ballistics for a couple of seasons great reel light smooth as pie and sealed a bargain at the price !
