Default Lake George NY "Lake Trout"

Hey all,

I am heading to Lake George in the beginning of July for the 7th year straight. I have always target Large and smallmouth bass, pickerel and the usually panfish. This year I need advice for the Lake Trout. I have a boat but no down rigger. Can I Jig as if I were fishing for Blues? Any advice will be used and helpful. Thanks

I know the charter boats troll for them using flashers in the deepest parts of the lake.

That being said my wife caught a 7# lake trout a few years back in 40 fow on a senko so i would imagine you could jig them up using heavy blade baits, spoons, or jigging raps the trick would be
A) locating the fish and
B) staying stationery enough to effectively jig them. The wind is always cranking right up the lake and keeping the boat in one spot is a pia.

What part of the lake are you staying?

I used to go there the same time of year. Great place to fish but man those Lakers are scattered all over the water column. We got em as shallow as fishing right from the dock all the way down to 125 feet of water. I fished with a guide my first year there like 13 years ago. We were jigging with leadcore in 100-125 fow. We would rip the jig up and down multiple times to call em in. They always hit as the spoon was fluttering down. Good luck!!!

Easiest is to establish the correct depth that coincides with preferred water temps that Lakers prefer . Then troll a modified Seth Green rig with a couple of spoons , check current laws on the rig but I’m sure it’s allowed per finger lakes
rigs
That’s very simple to rigs and depth o meter temp gauge or any laboratory themo meter can be used to establish the temp ban that will produce
If I remember lakers 45 - 55 best , Lake O 48 was my top temp !
Good luck 👍🍀
