Exclamation Bilge inspection!!!

Just a reminder... Had an aerator to replace and new lines for it, upon "entering" through a hatch, inspected other hoses as well... This is what I found

Bilge hose near the thru-hull at the loop...

Break was not seen but felt, this was definitely not getting all bilge water out each pump

2- live well fill line had a loop in it and all it took was a little movement to break in two places

Just a helpful tip- older boats do need a little more thorough go thru, especially if you plan on docking for the season!!

Update 3-9-13:
I do not like "plumbing"!
all hoses are in need of replacement... so we only went to a marine store in belmar two times today... and there are no more of the better clamps for 3/4 id hose.. just to let you know...lol. hopefull only two more visits and we will be done.
All below the water line hoses have been replaced now except for one that goes all the way to the bow fish box, thats a good steak dinner for two!, did I tell you I dislike plumbing!... so scupper lines, drains, fills, washdowns, any thing hose is now new and I feel like I took multiple dives off a set of stairs. those hatches that look so big , get a lot smaller when you try to work in there... only a few more weeks and we will be floating, and definitely not sinking from a bad hose or 8...

Default Re: Bilge inspection!!!

Lucky you caught it before it failed completely. Had that hose been run from a through hull under the water line, your boat could have been toast.

As far as through hulls and hoses under the water line... Make sure your through hulls are brass not plastic because plastic gets brittle over time and if they fail you are in toruble. Each through hull should have a shut off valve that is in working order in case a hose pops and you need to stop the water. And lastly, all hoses should be double clamped.
