Default walleye limit on the big D

Had some free time yesterday evening so decided to hit the river. Got to the river around 7 pm. First spot where I had luck before nada. Losta dead and rotting shad along the bank a some straglers swimming around. Had one hit that didn't come tight...thinking smallie. Lotsa surface commotion but mostly at the far current edge. Water was probably a good 2 or more feet down from spring heights. Fished this spot about 1 1/2 hours.
Not wanting to leave with a skunk decided to try a spot that I really never had luck before at but I knew it was fishy. Get to the spot and started casting around working up river. Nada. Start woring my way back and just before I get to where I started I nail a dink walleye. Suns going down and it's getting darker.....should I stay or go home. Figure if I catch one walleye there has got to be others. Decided to stay and fish into the night. Never really did this night fishing especially from the banks of the D. Well, after all said and done, it was probably my best day on the river and definately the most walleye I ever caught in one day! Landed a total of 5 walleyes including the first dink and one at 17.5". Kept my limit of 3. One at just over 18, one at 19 and one at 21". All fish were fat and healthy. Also caught were 4 smallies (2 nice ones, 1 med, and one dink). And to round out the night one lonely dink rock bass. Caught a fish every ten to fifteen minutes. Landed the big girl for my limit and called it a night at 11:30pm. All fish caught on a a rattling minnow plug. All fish released except for my limit of walleyes. Gotta do some more of this night river fishing. Was cool and quiet last light and thebreez kept the bugs at bay. There are dedefinitely more fish at this spot as I probably popped off as many as I caught.
