Thumbs up Making your own Chef's Knife

Hey guys,

So I wanted to make my own Chef's knife for my father for fathers day and here is the "How-to" video for those interested. It was really neat to go though all of the steps and see it take form. And it is even cooler seeing my dad use it in the kitchen!

Let me know what you think!

Very nice, how much time do you think you invested in that project ?

Thanks. I would say about 18-20hrs total. It takes more time than you would think. Just getting the fire that hot took 3 hours! I had three hours of footage too!

Cutting the knife out took 1 hour, filing/grinding the blade down on each side took 4hrs, sanding took 2hrs, the fire took 3hrs, the tempering took 4hrs, the sanding (again) took 2hrs, the wood handle took an hour to epoxy and then 2hrs to sand.

Very well done and great job editing... The editing is probably the most difficult part and what seprates a good video from a bad one.

What type of editing software are you using and is it Mac or Windows based ??

Thanks! The editing is one of the longest parts to this! I had 3hrs of footage and knocked it down to 20min. Probably took 9 hours to edit. I use sony vegas and it is windows based. It is hard because there is so much good footage and I say a lot of good tips and info but not all of it can be used in order to keep it concise.
