Default Spring 2013 trouting re-cap

Looked at my fishing logbook and figured i'd post a summary of the past 9 wks.

Opening Day - SBR in high bridge califon - My brother and i went hitless from 8 am to 130pm. My buddy met me in califon and we found a pod of rainbows (along with like 10 other people) they wanted powerbait or salmon eggs only. I caught 8 in 2 hours. nothing big.

Sun of stocking week#1- Black River in hacklebarney - very very cold morning - caught a dozen brookies in the plunge pools from 7 to 10am. Worms and powerbait.

Sun of week 2 - NBR in far hills - 7-10am. 10 brookies near the 202 bridge - worms.

Sun of wk 3 - Black in hacklebarney - 645-1015. 13 rainbows and brookies mixed, plus a 16" brown. all on worms. high water from recent rain.

Sun of wk 4- Black in hacklebarney - 645-1030. small wild browns to 7 in, rainbows and brookies, about 20 fish total

sun of wk 5 - SBR in long valley -645-1030- light rain. 10 Stocked rainbows, half a dozen wild browns to 12", 3 brookies with 2 wild at 5-6". saw a guy land a big rainbow around 17-18" when i first got there. Worms.

Sun wk6- SBR in LV- 7-1030, 9 stocked bows, 8 wild browns to 10", 3 brookies to 9" all appearing wild. Lost 2 big fish, 1 rainbow which i lost after 30 second fight - threw hook on the turn. Other fish i never saw, stayed down deep (possible sucker) -all on worms.

Sun wk 7 - SBR in LV - 645-1030, 6 stocked bows, 1 wild bow, 6 wild browns @5-6 inches, 2 white perch to 6", 3 chubs to 10", a few sunnies, 1 lmb @8"

Sun - 6/2 - SBR in LV - 645-1030. 2 big bows near 16/17" and 15/16" (I gut hooked both, they just inhaled the worm), 1 big brown 17" - released . which I think was hold over or wild, lost count on stocked bows, took 1 brown at 10" that i gut hooked and wasnt going to make it. 4 wild brookies to 7"Click image for larger version

Nice to see those bigger fish being caught later in the season.. those rainbows and browns have been in the stream for over a month plus+..... goes to show the fisherman that thinks bigger fish dont hold and get caught the weekend they are thrown in

Good times...

The log book is great. You can see patterns of whats working/not working and the weather/stream conditions. I just started this year as a new years resolution. I've had more big fish action the past 2 weeks than the first 5 combined and I know those bows have been in a long time. the bigger one had very pink flesh, possibly a fall holdover or a preseason stocker. The smaller one was very slightly pink.
