Default Sunday am Ramapo river

Hit up the Ramapo with a good friend at the Mahwah/Oakland border this morning. We started a little after 6 and we each got a Rainbow at the first spot. That was it till about 8:15 I got one more and we left. Slow fishing for us but it was good to be out. We fished areas that hold fish but they weren't buying what we were selling. Gotta give a prop to Pequest, the trout this year are nicer color and a few are nicer size than I've seen in years past.

Sounds like a rough day. I wasn't fishing today but was wandering along the Rockaway in Grace Lord Park in Boonton and saw a guy getting into his car with a full stringer of trout. I didn't have a chance to talk to him to see what he was using, but I saw nary another angler in that stretch whilie I was there. He was apparently in the right place at the right time. They stock Mondays there, so it's good to see that the trout aren't fished out right away

It was a slow morning for sure. The area we fished gets hit pretty hard. It was good to get outdoors regardless. I fished the Rockaway only one time in Denville, nice river alot of fish there. Thanks for the info.

Our Northern most reaches, Mawah and Oakland. I'm surprised you don't find any holdover fish up there. Maybe the stocking trucks are having a hard time making it over the hills.

They just don't seem to survive the summer there. The fall stocked fish make it through the winter but by August there are no trout in that stretch that I know of. I have caught a few holdover Browns north of Tuxedo NY but they are few and far between from what I've seen.

Been fishing the Ramapo over the last bunch of years as its the closest major river to where I live. IMO its not a great river for fishing. Its basically put and take with trout with almost zero bycatch. I have fished hundreds of yards with plugs etc and never even see a fish in spots. Had found a spot that was nicely stocked a few years ago up in Mahwah but now its only bucket stocked by TU guys and I don't where they wind up but I fish hard with little results so far this season.
