yep! if you are really serious try chumming a few days before say you are fishing this monday go down the next 3 days if possible and toss a can of creamed corn in the area you are going to fish everyday, this will bring em around. the more you fish the same spot the better it will get. use as little wight as you can or none if possible i usually use a tiny egg sinker attatched to 18 inch leader of 8lb line and a 8 or 10 baitholder hook, any bigger they will feel the weight use only enough corn to cover the hook, DRAG LOOSE OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR ROD ! and enjoy my Philly chinooks

Slip sinker and leave the bail open so they don't feel any resistance, once the line starts swimming away close the bail and hang on also make sure the drag isn't too tight and you have a full spool, there are some real monsters in deal lake. Also when approaching your fishing spot walk up slow and quiet most of the time the fish are a yard or less from the bank and like jmurr said the more chum the better. I chum my spot four times a week atleast.

boil strawberry jello mix then add HARD feed corn and boil till it just starts to get soft, use it for chum and also as hook bait.
The strawberry scent really draws them in

Dogfish, if you know where there is a mulberry tree, grab as many as you can once they ripen and start chumming with them. Once the carp start taking them off the surface, put a single berry on a small, light-wire hook and toss it right into the middle of the frenzy. I give it about 3-5 seconds before a carp nails it. Caught some HUGE slobs in Deal Lake one day doing that.

Sometimes in the spring you can cast to them in the small pond in front of KMart in Rt 35. They lounge around soaking up the rays. A very light trout rod, a few kernels of corn on a number 6 hook and Jersey bonefishing. Water might actually be too warm too early for that this year.

Thanks everyone!!!! This info is great! I will let you guys know how I do!

Gameplan:

-Try Deal Lake... I am going to fish the spot furthest to the east (closest to the beach) based on dfish28's recomendation to fish close to the rt71 bridge...

-I will chum some cream corn right when I get there and set up a rod with a small hook with a light weight, some corn and maybe even make hammer4reel's bait suggestion!

-If we dont catch anything after a couple of hours then we will try a smaller lake like Lake Como

THANKS!!!!

never went around the rt287 area but the entire canal has carp everywhere. find a calm area with not much weeds/current and a wide open bank close to the water to make landing the fish easier. chum like hell with corn and put a few kernels on a size 2-6 hook, sliding sinker setup with a swivel and 20lb fluorocarbon/mono leader, or thin braid if ur fishing hair rig style. use any medium heavy action outfit w/ 10-14lb line. if chumming initially doesnt work, try prebaiting a spot a few days before the actual trip to get the carp acustomed to the bait. set up 3 poles and cast into the middle where its deepest. use rod holders and make sure the drag is set lose. i lost 2 rods for not paying attention and underestimating the strength of these fish.when a fish grabs the bait and runs tighten the drag ASAP and hold on tight
