Default 3116 cat motors

looking at a boat with 3116 cats in it was looking for any input good or bad,how hard is it to find parts,a good cat mechanic.I just don't want to get stuck with another pair of motors I cant find parts or someone to work on any input would be a great help

There were some early issues with these motors with blocks that were soft and apparently manufactured in France. If the motors you are looking at have over 500 hours on them they are not likely to be in that batch.

Other then that, if maintained they should be great.

If I were you I would get the serial numbers and run them through CAT and spend the money to have a good CAT mechanic run through them, do an oil test and he can also run the serial numbers for you.
