Default new boat blown engine...

im new to the forum and this is my first time owning a boat. i bought a 1999 sportcraft 231 wac last oct. got it for an incredible price. the boat has a 350 i/o. the previous owner seized the engine due to oil pan rotted out and filled bilge with oil. he paid over 7000 to have a reman engine installed. i bought the boat winterized in october.

took it out of storage two weeks ago and ran it and got it ready for the water. ran perfect!! ive been waiting six months....my dad and i take it out in the delaware last weekend and everything is great. we stop in the city and had lunch then on our way home starts misfiring. tried the ole mercruiser dist. cap replacement and rotor on monday. started her up and motor is knocking its as# off. started digging...removed cylinder head and found the brand new reman engine with 30 hours on it (and out of warranty because it was 2 years ago) had a mis-machined head. valve seat came loose, shattered and and sent shrapnel through the intake manifold to cylinders 1 7 4 and 6.

ordered a jasper reman engine and intall kit and put it in yesterday. took it back on the river today and ran like a champ. neshaminy state park to the airport and back. runs awesome. ill be trailering to the shore this summer (highlands and belmar). ill see you guys on the water this summer!!

tight lines

Mike

That sucks Mike, welcome to boating

I guess you bought a short block and swapped all the other stuff off the old motor or did you buy a crate motor??

Best of luck and see you out on the water.

Jasper engine was block and heads. Switched valve covers distributor, intake manifold, balancer, etc... U get the idea. Me and a buddy rocked it out in one day. Old engine was out by 1030 and everything switched over and running by 3.

yesterday was my wifes 30th birthday. called us both out of work and surprised her with a day on the boat. ran like a dream. took it down to the airport, threw anchor and relaxed for a while. lunch in philly and back home. no issues whatsoever. thinking blackfish and or stripers this sunday and next weekend. we'll see what the weatherman says...
