Default 12v items hooked up with 24v setup

Morning, looking for knowledge.
I will upgrade my bow motor to a unit that requires 24v, how do I hook my other stuff that is still 12v to that setup without having a 3rd battery just for FF and the other 12v motor?
thanks

With 24 vdc its two 12vdc batteries in connected in series . aka the one battery #1 negative attached to second battery #2 positive. And the 24vdc power to the 24vdc electric motor is first batt#1 pos terminal connection and second batt#2 negative terminal connection attached to 24 vdc motor.

For your 12 vdc system.... connect neg/ground to the SAME neg the 24vdc motor is connected to. You need a common ground. That's it or problems.

The positive of your 12vdc gear should be run from the positive of the SAME battery that has the boat wide common ground/negative.

There! Do not connect batt #1 negative to post to ANYTHING but the positive post of batt#2.

PM me if you have any questions?

For the additional $100 I would get a 3rd battery for the 12V appliances.

Having the 12 volt appliances running from the 24 v system will result in an uneven drain on the one battery shorting the life of that battery and the series. 24 volt systems like to have the batteries at the same state of charge. The TM might also pull the voltage way down on the 12v side under full power causing your FF to power down.

That's a good point. Never asked about charging or if you have a gas motor with alternator to charge.

Isolation becomes key then if you are going to use those same two batteries w/ one as a cranking battery.

No gas motor, it’s electric only.
2 ff, regular navigation lights, 2 electric motors.
3rd battery was my thought for both FF and stern motor
Dual for the 24v for heavier bow motor.
I currently have a dual bank onboard charger, could I still use that if those are the batteries that I creat the 24v with?

depends on the charger. def check your owners manual

My Minn Kota has a smart chip and recognizes the 24 volt system and charges each battery separately.
