Default Boating license question

I have been told that a boating license is not required for a 14ft boat . This doesn`t sound right to me. Does anyone know if one is required.

Do I need a boat safety certificate?

A1

Yes, if you are operating a personal watercraft (Jet Ski, Wave Runner, etc.), or a power vessel on the waters of the State of New Jersey you are required to possess a New Jersey boat safety certificate.

A boat safety certificate is not required for non-powered vessels.

boating license ... the word BOAT appears on your drivers license ... and yes this is required in the state of NJ ... and most states ... for any powered sail boat over 8' and boat with motor regardless of lenght ... you also must have a boat safety course registration of completion ... california is different ...

this is news to me. I know about the safety coarse, but was unaware I had to get an endorsement on my license. Is it just a matter of going to DMV and paying a fee?

The BOAT endorsement that you pay for on your driver s license is for fresh water power boat operation. This information was confirmed by the NJMVC at Freehold NJ

You my friend, are 10000% incorrect.

you DO NOT need a boating license if you are fishing tidal waters.

You DO NEED the safety certificate!

the Boating endorsement on your drivers license is for freshwater only and you ware asting your money if you only use your boat in the salt.

Don't feel bad... had the boat indorsement on my license for almost 30 years... renewed my drivers license one day and it seemed cheaper then before... asked the woman why so cheap and she replyed that boat was no longer on the new license... I was outraged and was told no boating course no indorsement.... well long story short I went out and got every license and indorsement I could get (including a U.S.C.G. Masters) anyhow parker pete is right, it will all pay off!

Funky Monkey

So are you saying that I DO NOT need the license just the safety certificate if I am just using this boat in the rivers.
