Default SeaStar steering arm

Had a slight leak 2 years ago and last year experienced a lag in helm response....occasionally. Topped off with oil and didn't make much of a difference. Going to order the seal repair kit and bleed the system. My question....who's done it....and how big of a pain in the ballz is it?

Bob - The helm pump itself is designed to purge air out of the system by filling the sump and turning the wheel hard over to hard over several times untill all the air is purged.

Best way to do this is to buy the hose kit for the sea star fluid bottle. It has a hose with 2 threaded ends on it. One mail end thread which threads into the the top of the helm pump fill where the cap usually is. The other a female cap that threads on to the fluid bottle. It also has a tack.

Once you have everything back together get the hose kit and hook it up and hang your fluid bottle upside down like an IV.... Once you have everything in position, take the tack that comes with the kit and puncture a hole in cap and this allows air to get into the fluid and drain into the sump.

Continue to turn the wheel hard over to hard over and this will bleed the system out...

Kind of tough to decribe but when you see the kit you will pick up what I'm laying down. Call me if you need me to explain.

Explain? How about a demonstration!

Going to pick up all the repair components today and tackle it once she back in my driveway.

Thanks Gerry!
