Default Hybrids on Hopatcong

I've run into a few blitzes, but never focused on them. I've read about folks fishing slip bobbers with Herring and chicken livers on the bottom.

A few questions. If you fish slip bobbers, do you rig with an egg sinker and a leader? If you are seeing fish at 25 foot, do you rig for that depth or above? Hook through nose or back?

What about the liver? anyone have any experience with this?

I'd like to take my dad out but have only chased them at night, but not with bait.

Thanks!

I fish for them with chicken livers but I am in no way an expert. I will say this though they do attract the hybrids very well. Only problem is keeping them on the hook. Often the fish will pull them off the hook without getting hooked. One thing I have noticed is the fresher the better they seem to stay on the hook. Good luck...Charlie

Hybrids do love the livers. Perch will nibble and steal 'em and you'll probably get a catfish on them too. But that's about it for livers. If you use herring, you have a shot at a wider variety of fish because everything in that lake eats the herring

get a BIG inline circle hook 2/0 or 3/0. put the liver through the tougher sinew on it a few times and just drop it down. put one near the bottom and one higher up (no need to cast it if in a boat, ever). No respectable sized hybrid will steal that bait, trust me. the smaller fish with nibble it off eventually but if a decent hybrid takes it he will swallow it on impact.

leave your drag somewhat loose and they will hook themselves in the lip almost every time. if you use a treble hook, regular bait hook, or even an offset circle, you will gut hook and probably kill MANY MANY fish. 2/0 and 3/0 inline circle hooks are hands down the best option for this fishing, both in hook up ratio and to safely release the fish.
