Default Smallies in the streams

Went to a tributary of the North Branch Raritan yesterday after work. Good fishing all evening. I wished it stayed light till 830 year round :P

Plenty of ~9inch smb that fight like hell.

Water was stained and just a bit high.

Endpoint of my wading was a nice hole where i got a few small bass, a big red sucker which i thought was a rainbow. Weird how these fight, hooked it outside it's lip. then a nice 16 inch bass. Thing tugged around with passion.

Surprised i haven't caught a single trout yet since opening day, figured one would turn up as im only using 3 inch grubs on a small jig. Oh well, more BRONZE will do

Beautiful scenery and fun smallie action. Obviously bigger bass fight hard, but the little ones, especially 12-14 inchers, are feisty af and just head bang away underwater. Wonder if the big ones know to conserve their energy after a certain point???

I hit the South Branch near Flemington/Raritan Twp real quick on break today. The water still a little dirty and high but should be prime by tomorrow and for the weekend. Got a stockie on a Big O crank bait. Also got a hit on CD-7.

Nice report, Jimmy. How I describe it, the small ones never stop fighting and their plan is to move as much as possible. The big ones will sometimes utilize their mass to just stay in place as you try and move them. And once they pull they do so with great power.

Thumbs up Re: Smallies in the streams

Come to think of it I have only caught a few trout so far this spring. Maybe some day the rains will let up a little.
