Default HB Helix Finders

Anyone have one of the new humminbird Helix units? Can you share your experiences.

Looking to upgrade this winter and think these are the best bang for the buck. One concern in with the smaller horizontal screen and I wonder if it shows enough the water column and marks in deeper water.

The five is way too small. I am interested in the seven but want to see it in person before I buy it.

I've got the same thing on my agenda for the winter. I was leaning towards the Lowrance HDS7 gen 3. Would really like the HDS9 but don't know if I'm willing to spend the extra cash and if I really need one that big in a yak. I did check out the helix at my local kayak store and was blown away by the things it showed, thus why I'm upgrading. I'm familiar with using a Lowrance but could be swayed to the hummingbird. Guess that will be up to the salesman.

I run a 958di and a 999si in my boat and i do alot of electronic installs. I did a helix 5 a few months back and its too small i think. They have new sizes up to 12" which are nice. Ive installed many hds units and it depends on ur usage. Humminbird has the best side imaging and i prefer their chartplotting. Lowrance has the better 2d sonar esp on general/auto setting. U can never have too much screen so get the biggest u can afford. I never use down imaging so i wouldnt spend for it but w side image u also get down as part of the package
