Default 19 lber pic

Cooked up my first batch of corn meal bait for this year this afternoon, then caught 19 lb, 14.5 lb and 2 lb carp this evening in Carnegie Lake this evening.

I only fish for carp from shore. Easiest method is to throw out corn for chum in the same spot everyday, then catch them on corn bait. I use my homemade corn meal bait on a #8 red treble hook because I cast it further than corn. I don't use any weight and fish with a slack line. As soon as my line moves, I try to set the hook. You will have the most action with the lightest weight fluorocarbon line that you can handle. Catching carp in a crowded public fishing are in NJ is nearly impossible though because carp are very difficult to catch when alerted to the presence of people. Uncrowded carping is the best. Good luck and let us know what you catch.

You're welcome in the raritan anytime

And thanks for that carp advice, never thought of not using weight and letting the pack-bait be the weight. Would cut down on tangling with split shots.

Returned to my spot this evening and nobody was there. Caught a 9 lber on my last cast for the day but it took > 4.5 hrs to get a bite on my homemade corn meal bait.
