please take a few minutes to watch this video.

could you imagine having a C.O. come up to you and fine you for a fish you caught last year that your log showed was 1/2" short?

Interesting, does this mean they should have just thrown out dead shorts.
It seems they hire a bunch of braindeads that can't understand an honest businessman trying to employ many people and try to put him out of business.

Question whose relatives own the other fish auctions?

A short fish is a short fish. If I happen to have a 27.5 inch striper and I get caught taking it, immediately I get looked at like I am a poacher and fined. They should pay more attention to what they are doing. the fines levied, however, are a little ridiculous

While one could argue that if you have 10 or 11 out of 250,000 fish that fell less than 1/2 and inch away from the limit that is a better percentage than any other type of fishing, commercial or recreational as far as compliance goes and those fish were obviously not intentional, you aren't going to see a profit increase from 11 fish.

However, that does not, as you explain, change the fact that a short fish is still short, and if you get caught with something you are not supposed to have then you risk paying the price.

Difference is (and I agree with you about the fines) is that you caught with a short striper costs you less than $100.00

You caught with 11 short stripers costs you less than $1000.00

These a--wipes (enforcement) wanna crucify these people for something the enforcement officers have written far smaller penalties for far larger infractions!

Ron, incredible connection. This is ridiculous. This is why our economy is at the point it is - our own country is putting good hard working people out of business day by day to appease special interest groups (this is what this is in the big picture, correct?) Again, this is ridiculous. I'm glad the last rep (can't remember who that was) is standing up for the company and its business.

Take a fish that is close in size put it on ice for a day or 2 and tell me what happens to it. I have.
When there is that much volume involved there should be some allowance for error. Thats the problem with the system there is no room or allowance for error .

Dont get me wrong when there is Blatency involved thats one thing , but what i would consider a handfull of fish getting by through millions of pounds give me break.

With some of the fines i have heard about drug dealers get a better deal .
These agents have powers that are above most laws . No warrants needed, they can search your boat , backyard , restaurant, etc, anytime they want.
NOAA also has up to 5 years to send you a NOVA on a violation .

Some of the new stuff coming down the pike with catch shares( IFQS) some of the people who have served on the boards of different fisheries and taking advantage of the "inside" info that they are given and making motions for their profitability is no different than " inside trading " which i believe some have gone to jail for.

Just my 2 cents.

It's hard to believe that it's happening in this country. That sounds like a news report from a third world communist country. It's like paying the mob protection money!
