Default largemouths in the rain

got rained out of work early today so went home got the penn 955 and 7ft ugly stick out cleaned them up, lubed up, respooled with 10lb test and off to a local pond.arrived around 4:00 pm tied on a terminator nite spinnerbait 3/8oz.moderate winds and light rain made for decent bass fishing.i managed to get 4 bass in the 12 to 14" range,i missed two others as well. slow roll retrive about 1ft below the surface is what they wanted.the place had alot of weeds already

Where I fished the other day, weeds have appeared of a kind I've never seen before with leaves sort of a like a vine. The previous two years fishing here, these weeds never grew. So fishing will be a little more complicated this year, because bass have more cover well out from shore. It used to be mostly sticks pitching, with some algae mats, nothing major. Waiting to see if they treat the pond. Here it might help the fishing. Chemical treatment destroyed Lake Musconetcong, and though water chestnuts would have destroyed the lake anyway, too bad dozens of hired hands couldn't have pulled them. Create jobs. I researched online for hours about water chestnut treatments, and by what I gathered, even chemical treatment only keeps the chestnuts marginal.

i think the only way to deal with those weeds is draw down and dredge, but its costly.red pond lilies ,curly doc and water chestnut are tough. millfoil coontail hydrila can be delt with by using chemicals, but they both take there toll on funds and the environment.fish need the weeds but there's got to be kind of a happy medium.

Draw down and dredge makes a lot of sense. To go back to the beginning and start over--if every damn water chestnut pod could be removed. Those pods get buried in the bottom, and they're good to sprout for 12 years. But 376 acres dredged out to be sure all those pods are gone...what an expense this plant is, and you know more than I about other problem plants. All I know is thriving aquatic vegetation really did serve LM well. Water clear enough to read the date on a dime at bottom, and pickerel and bass everywhere, feeding on abundant silver shiners in great habitat for all. But water chestnuts eventually produce anoxic conditions.

i've seen lakes get completely ruined by trying to treat weeds. My suggestion would be to practice fishing weedless lures like soft swim baits rigged weedless on a wide gap hook. It's some of my favorite fishing. When i see thick weeds in summer i get a little excited...don't tell my wife.

it's our secret chrisper.i have seen lakes badly affected from chemical treatment but not partial dredging, sometimes the weeds can be too thick.

LM used to be fantastic for just that. My son and I couldn't get enough, and right up to very end, I mean, that lake was carpeted, rowing--they said--was impossible, but we did, and we caught fish left and right.
